Old Vine

Monday, May 30, 2005

Old Vine is a true ethnographic museum. Since the main road, at the sight of the buildings, you realize what living soil clinging to its inhabitants. And to know in detail how they live, their activities, the animals that helped them do it and those who served to support themselves, learn to know better the human race.

Parked the car on an asphalt road, which descends to more modern houses, you have to walk a few meters a "wagon road". The first "inhabitants" of the Vineyard with which we encounter is with a flock of goats. Naturally one thinks of milk, cheese (as tasty as that area) and of course meat. This had resolved most of their nutrition.

And although the visit was not in that order, saw the pigsty, which was simply a hollow, a hole made by natural soil erosion and exploited to serve as a carrier to pork, which of course was there for we had no to ask about the mission of the enclosure. This complements the nutrition of the inhabitants of the house, of course Just as in all Spanish villages.

The animals help humans in their work were represented by a camel, an assistant principal for the transportation of goods and family vehicle, and a mule, in addition to the above functions, the mission of "motor" of the plow .

In the courtyard, as hall-of-way to the offices of the house, there were many sanmigueleros dressed in the costumes. The kitchen, with stove, of course, wood, iron utensils, pots of clay and the cooks and waiters dressed in their regional finery. The mill, mill in full operation, and the bedroom with furniture and humble past. The block corresponding to the manger and the Pajero as a store of straw that comes with the feed (wheat, barley, etc ....), Which I guess would also serve as a family bed, as happened frequently in the peninsular villages. Around the block, and now abroad, is the pigsty, which we discussed earlier and above a cave, natural course, which I suppose would serve as a pantry and warehouse. There are, certainly well cared for, small gardens that complement the food cycle of the ancient inhabitants of the Vineyard.

In order to Viña Vieja is an example of how people lived in Spain until relatively recently. Because I guess in Tenerife will have occurred and in the Peninsula: The exodus of villagers to the cities in search of a better life, the rise of mechanization (now all done with machines), has to be disappearing ancestral customs have been reduced to that, to a museum.

Feast of Corpus Christi in San Miguel

Sunday, May 29, 2005

For me it was all a very pleasant surprise to find myself on that Sunday last year, which celebrated the feast of Corpus Christi, streets carpeted with flowers, to honor, to enhance the passage of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of San Miguel . But I came a bit late so I did not see everything. Only one was untouched part that had not yet passed the procession.

I liked it so much that I decided to see him back this year. But not only the finished work, but step by step throughout the process.

I started by looking at the pictures early Sunday morning, some were made on Saturday, and gradually placing the flowers to the termination of the floral carpet just before leaving the temple of the Custody of all those attending the ceremony. It gave me time to look closely at the work done, to take pictures of everything and ultimately to enjoy the cute beauty of the magnificent work done.

For up to the time worked. Not met that "one of the three most q Thursday q sun glitter", meteorologically speaking, of course. The sky was leaden, the atmosphere was moist (without rain) as q aq helped keep the flowers fresh and lush with all its colors in full bloom.
I know, in situ, floral motifs made in other parts of the island but I can assure q q the San Miguel made do not detract at all from those made in other municipalities Peninsula, for example, Catalonia and Valencia.
